Itinerary : This Northern Thailand adventure takes you into and through cities and regions that have helped to shape modern Thailand‚ its people and their unique charm and mystique. From the ancient capital of Sukhothai to Chiang Mai‚ ‘Rose of the North’ the Kingdom’s second largest city‚ urban experiences are combined with a three–day trek through stunning mountain scenery spending nights in hill–tribe villages‚ and days elephant riding and bamboo river–rafting.

Day 1 – Arrive in Bangkok ( -/-/- )  

Pick up from airport and transfer to your Bangkok hotel and then enjoy a day of leisure to experience the variety of activities and events unfolding on the roads and sidewalks.

Day 2 – Bangkok ( B/-/- )

Visit one of Bangkok’s famous floating markets. After lunch, dress with decorum as you pay your respects at three of the most famous temples in Thailand, Marble Temple, Temple of the Reclining Buddha and Golden Buddha Temple and experience the beauty of these spectacular, yet delicate Thai architectural works of art.

Day 3 – Bangkok to Sukhothai ( B/-/- )

Travel by public air-conditioned bus to Sukhothai, oldest of Thailand’s former capitals and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 4 – Sukhothai to Phitsanuloke ( B/-/- )

Full-day sightseeing around Sukhothai Historical Park and the restored ruins of the Grand Palace and temples dating back to the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great (AD 1277-1317). Then travel by road to Phitsanuloke for overnight.

Day 5 – Phitsanuloke to Chiang Mai ( B/-/- )

Morning sightseeing in Phitsanulok including Wat Mahathat, the local folk museum and a workshop making Buddha images, followed by an afternoon train to Chiang Mai.

Day 6 – Chiang Mai ( B/-/- )
Take a tour of Doi Suthep Temple, spectacularly located atop a 1,000-meter mountain, this intricately decorated temple offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Day 7 – Depart for trekking ( B/L/D )

Your real adventure begins here. From Chiang Mai travel north to Mae Malai local market and continue to Pang Lan Waterfalls to relax and enjoy lunch before continuing to Huay Nam Dang National Park. Start trekking deep into the forest for about two hours to the Karen village of Baan Mae Jok. Take a walk around the village before dinner to witness the way of life of the people and their close links to nature.

Day 8 – Trekking ( B/L/D )

Trek for about three hours to an elephant camp to start a 90-minute elephant ride to a rafting camp near the Karen village of Bann Pa Khaolam.

Day 9 – Trekking and back to Chiang Mai ( B/L/- )

Take an exhilarating bamboo raft trip 25 kilometres down Mae Tang river. Stop en route at a small Lahu village and continue to a Shan village for lunch. Return to Chiang Mai and transfer to the hotel.

Day 10 – Chiang Mai ( B/-/- )

Free day to discover the city of Chiang Mai on your own.

Day 11 – Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai ( B/-/- )

Depart early to Chiang Rai. After a short stop at a local hot spring, continue to the famous Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Visit Yao and Akha hill-tribe villages before reaching Mae Sai border town. After exploring Mae Sai, set off to overnight in Chiang Rai.

Day 12 – Chiang Rai to Bangkok ( B/-/- )
Morning free in Chiang Rai until transfer to the airport for the flight back to Bangkok and the end of the tour.

§ Accommodation: shared twin-bedded room with air conditioning and private facilities. While trekking, stays in village huts. Floor mat, sheet, rucksack, water canteen and lifejacket are supplied

§ Meals: Daily breakfast and full board while trekking.

§ Transport:  Air-conditioned/non-air-conditioned in remote areas, 2nd class air-conditioned train Phitsanulok to Chiang Mai and flight ticket Chiang Rai to Bangkok.

§ Misc: Local English-speaking guides and all activities as specified in the itinerary, including admission fees, with instruction where necessary
