Pai Cave
Northern Kayak & Caves

Itinerary : From the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai‚ travel northwest to discover the charms of the remote Shan town of Pai. Stay at a natural jungle lodge‚ experience adventurous kayaking along Nam Lang River and explore the spectacular Lod Cave before continuing to the peaceful town of Mae Hong Son. Pleasure yourself with beautiful scenery around this small and quiet city and visit its spectacular Burmese–style monasteries.

Day 1 - Chiang Mai to Pai  ( -/-/- )

Depart Chiang Mai for Pai, a quiet city famous for its beautiful scenery. Explore the town and its surroundings at your own wish. Attractions include the nearby hill-tribe villages, waterfalls and local hot springs, or you can just relax and unwind in this peaceful small town.

Day 2 - Pai to Pang Mapha and Lod Cave ( B/L/D )   

Transfer by road to Pang Mapha and check into a natural jungle lodge. Visit Lod Cave, a large limestone cave with a wide stream running through it.  This includes rafting across the stream to visit the second and third caverns. After sunset, see 300,000 birds fly into the cave exit which forms a miraculous scene. Enjoy a Thai-style dinner and overnight in a comfortable bungalow at the jungle lodge.

Day 3 - Pang Mapha ( B/L/D )

Enjoy the fun and adventuresome kayaking for 12 kms down the Nam Lang river, passing through Lod cave, and sections of exciting white water rapids. After lunch visit a cave with 1700 years old prehistoric log coffins before travelling by road back to the Lodge. Here you can enjoy an optional steam sauna with traditional Shan herbs and a massage.

Day 4 - Pang Mapha to Mae Hong Son ( B/-/- )

Transfer back to Mae Hong Son and visit Doi Kong Moo Temple for magnificent views of the valley and the town. Then transfer to the hotel for overnight.

Day 5 - Mae Hong Son return to Chiang Mai ( B/-/- )

At leisure to explore by yourself the beauty of this small town. Suggested sights are the lake-side twin Burmese-style monasteries of Wat Jong Klang and Wat Jong Kham, and the local handicraft market. Then transfer to the airport for a flight* to Chiang Mai. Termination of the tour upon arrival at Chiang Mai airport.

Remark :
 

Those who do not wish to take the kayaking trip, full day options include: trekking and cave exploration or a walk along forest trails to visit a Karen hill-tribe with the fun of bamboo rafting. Please advice at the time of booking when applicable.

· § Accommodation: standard-class hotels based on 2 persons in a twin-bedded room on B/B basis. The rooms are air-conditioned in Mae Hong Son and without air conditioning in Pai & Pang Mapha. All rooms are with attached bath and toilet.

§ Meals: Daily breakfast with 2 Lunch and 2 dinner

§ Transport:  Air-conditioned/non-air-conditioned in remote areas

§ Misc: Local English-speaking guides and all activities as specified in the itinerary, including admission fees, with instruction where necessary
