Hidden Treasures of Vietnam

Itinerary : If you are looking for a trekking experience that is not too tough but is still way off the normal tourist trail then this is the package you want. Trek in the forest–clad mountains of Northwest Vietnam‚ a landscape of trees and rivers‚ dotted with ethnic minority communities and spend two unforgettable nights in villages along the way. Other highlights include the ancient city of Hoi An and a boat trip in the Mekong Delta to see the biggest floating market in western Vietnam.
 
 

Day 1,  Arrive in Hanoi  (-/-/-)  

Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to your hotel. Ease your day with a Water Puppet show, a unique traditional art of Vietnam.

Day 2,  Hanoi to Lao Cai  (B/-/-)

Enjoy a guided city tour to visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and his former residence, the One Pillar Pagoda, and Temple of Literature. After lunch, visit the Historical Museum, Tran Quoc Pagoda, Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple. Spend your evening shopping in the Old Quarter area before transferring to Hanoi train station for an overnight sleeper to Lao Cai.

Day 3,  Lao Cai to Sapa - Trekking & Home-stay (Trekking: 12 km, 6 hrs)  (B/-/-)

Today you will learn about Hmong culture and how they live their daily lives. Upon arrival at Lao Cai railway station, meet your guide and transfer to Sapa. After breakfast, take a short drive to the first Hmong village for the start of your trekking adventure. Visit the old French-designed Hydro Electric plant and trek down the valley to the Muong Hoa River and visit a Black Hmong village. After that, continue to meet your host family at Tavan village and spend a night in a home-stay.

Day 4,  Tavan to Giang Ta Chai to Su Pan to Ban Ho (Trekking: 12 km, 6 hrs)   (B/-/-)

Trek through the beautiful forest to visit the Red Dzao minority, the Silver Waterfall and a suspension Rattan Bridge. You will meet with local people and have a chance to share cultural experiences with local families. Spend a night in a home-stay with a Tay hill-tribe family.

Day 5,  Ban Ho to Nam Toonh to Thanh Phu to Sapa  (B/-/-)

On the final leg of your trekking journey visit the Xa Pho tribe, the smallest ethnic group in the Sapa area who have little contact with modern Vietnam. After this fascinating encounter it’s time to pack up and return to Sapa.

Day 6,  Sapa  (B/-/-)

A day at leisure to explore this charming town, go shopping in the local markets or perhaps take a bike ride to Binh Lu town. In the late afternoon transfer to Lao Cai for the overnight sleeper back to Hanoi.

Day 7,  Hanoi  to Danang to Hoi An  (B/-/-)

Upon arrival in Hanoi, transfer to your hotel to freshen up and then have some time to further explore the city before the transfer to the airport for the flight to Danang. Upon arrival, take the short drive to Hoi An for a walking tour through the Old Quarter visiting the town's most important landmarks such as the Japanese Covered Bridge, ancient Assembly Hall and Phuc Kien Temple. Then take a boat ride on Thu Bon River for a different view of Hoi An Ancient Town. Visit Cam Kim mattress-making village the carpentry village of Kim Bong and Dai Chiem Estuary.

Day 8,  Hoi An to Danang to Ho Chi Minh City  (B/-/-)

Relax on the beautiful beach until a transfer to the airport for a flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Make stops en-route to visit the Marble Carving village, famous China Beach and the Cham Museum. Upon arrival, take a short city tour to visit Reunification Palace and War Museum.

Day 9,  Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh Long  (B/-/-)

Drive to Vinh Long and then take a motorboat to a small village to meet your host family. After lunch set off on a boat trip around the area to meet some of the local people and learn about their daily life. You can help them in their gardens, lend a hand with the cooking and learn some delicious Vietnamese recipes. When your stomach is filled it is time for a little Vietnamese language tuition with your host family. Enjoy the tranquil evening and catch the fire flies before calling it a night.

Day 10, Vinh Long to Can Tho  (B/-/-)

Rise early and visit the floating market by boat and see how the Delta people live and trade. Take the chance to sample some delicious local Vietnamese fruits. Then hop on a bicycle for a ride along small village roads shaded by bamboo, banana, rambutan, pomelo and mangosteen trees. Pass the immense green rice fields and soak up the beautiful scenery. You will also participate in a rice making workshop to learn about the cultivation cycle of rice and then visit a pagoda and stroll around its gardens before returning to the home-stay. After a rest, say good bye to your host family and take a local boat to Can Tho. Check in to hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure to explore this bustling town.

Day 11, Can Tho to Ho Chi Minh City  (B/-/-)

Take a boat trip to Cai Rang, the largest floating market in the West of Vietnam. On the way you will visit a rice noodle factory and learn how to make rice noodles. Then take a slow boat trip along small backwater canals before transferring back to Ho Chi Minh City in early afternoon and the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 12, Ho Chi Minh City to Airport  (B/-/-)

Free time to explore Vietnam’s largest city before transfer to the airport for your next destination.

§ Accommodation: share twin-bedded room, B/B basis.  All rooms are air-conditioned with attached bath and toilet. While staying with the local family is in the guest room of the house (A mat with mosquito net, blanket and pillow are provided).

§ Meals:  As specified in the program.

§ Transport:  Tours and transfers by air-conditioned bus.  Non air-conditioned transportation will be used in remote areas.

§ Misc: Local English-speaking guides and all activities as specified in the itinerary, including admission fees, with instruction where necessary.
