Mysteries of Laos

Itinerary : This is one of our favourite trips. Join us on a nine–day excursion to Vang Vieng‚ Laos’ Khao San Road in a beautiful rural setting. Explore one Asia’s most intriguing archaeological sites at the Plain of Jars. Cool down your exotic journey in the beautiful and tranquil city of Luang Prabang and discover what secrets the town has to offer.
 
 

Day 1,  Arrive in Vientiane  (-/-/-)  

Meet your guide either at the airport or the border and transfer to your hotel. Visit Wat Sisaket and Wat Prakeo, the former royal temples, That Luang stupa and a national symbol of Laos, Patouxai and Laos’ triumphal arch.

Day 2,  Vientiane to Vang Vieng  (B/-/-)

Travel by road to Vang Vieng, a tourist-oriented town located north of the capital of Vientiane. Here, if you feel adventurous enough you can try tubing down the river, kayaking or climbing the in the surrounding mountains. At the summit awaits a panorama of limestone hills with numerous caves and caverns. Alternatively you can choose to have a more relaxing time and explore the area by long-tail boat.

Day 3,  Vang Vieng  (B/-/-)

Drive to the ethnic Khmu village of Ban Viengsamay and there your experienced guide will accompany you kayaking down Nam Song River and trekking to the cave of Tam Nam Theme that cuts paths through the mountain. After enjoying a picnic lunch by the river, take a swim and relax before paddling to an organic farm and sample home made fruit wine and mulberry green tea. Afterwards visit of Tam None, one of the biggest caves in Vang Vieng and swim through its various caverns. Back to Vang Vieng in time for the sunset.

Day 4,  Vang Vieng to Xiang Khouang  (B/-/-)

Travel by road to Xiang Khouang province, originally known as Muang Phouan, where the famous Plain of Jars is located.

Day 5,  Plain of Jars  (B/-/-)

Embark on a guided tour to the Plain of Jars sites 1 and 2. Stroll through an impressive archaeological site with hundreds of enigmatic large stone jars scattered across the plateau.  End your day with a visit to an ethnic Hmong village.

Day 6, Plain of Jars to Luang Prabang  (B/-/-)

After breakfast, continue your journey to the peaceful city of Luang Prabang.

Day 7, Luang Prabang  (B/-/-)

After breakfast, visit Big Brother Mouse, a bookstore where cultural and linguistic exchange can be experienced. Enjoy a city tour to visit Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Mai, Wat Visou and Wat Phoutthabat. Luang Prabang also houses a National Museum in the former Royal Palace displaying a collection of many fascinating ancient artefacts. Relax in the evening with a sunset view of the city from Mount Phousi.

Day 8, Luang Prabang  (B/-/-)

Those who rise early will be privileged to offer food to the monks on the daily morning alm’s round. After breakfast, cruise up the Mekong River to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves filled with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues and the rice whisky-making village of Ban Xang Hai. On the way back, visit a traditional hand-weaving village.

Day 9, Luang Prabang to Airport  (B/-/-)

At leisure before a transfer to the airport for a flight to your next destination.
