Living a Thai Life
Departure day : Daily
Validity : 01 November 2011 – 31 October 2012
Applicable for : A group of minimum 2 persons.
Itinerary : This cultural journey will bring you closer to Thailand through discovering the heart and the warmth of authentic Thai hospitality by staying with Thai people while they themselves show you the highlights of local life. You will witness the many facets of village life‚ markets‚ the vast historic ruins of old Siam at Ayutthaya and Sukhothai. After Chiang Mai then explore beautiful remote islands of Yao. Feel free to let us know if you wish to extend or shorten any part of the program according to your own preferences.

Day 1 - Bangkok ( -/-/- )

Arrival with warm greetings from our experienced guide and then transfer to Baan Dinsor, a small boutique inn.

Day 2 - Bangkok and exploration ( B/-/- )

Today is the time to fully experience Bangkok’s bustling life by means of transport not usually used by tourists. You will feel closer to the lifestyle of city’s people and to discover the unseen side of   Bangkok. Spend your evening at Suan Lum Night Bazaar, a lively night market for handicraft products. There are also beer gardens, open-air restaurants, a Thai Puppet Theatre, etc.

Day 3 - Bangkok to Bang Sai village ( B/-/D )

Get your first glimpse of the Thai countryside on the scenic drive from Bangkok into the heart of Thailand's rice-growing Central Plains region. Visit our Queen’s Handicraft Center to witness the delicate work of Thai artistry before visiting the village of the artisans that produce their beautiful work of arts for the centre. Arrive at Bang Sai village. Feel at home as you get to know your host family and discover your village by cycling to explore paddy fields, fruit plantations, a fish sanctuary, etc. At night it is the time to learn about Thai culture and perhaps join the family for some Thai dancing or preparing Thai snacks. Overnight with your family.

Day 4 - Ayutthaya to Sukhothai  ( B/-/D )

Early morning wake up and join your host to make merit when you are taken to the temple to give alms to the monks. You will also visit Ayutthaya to explore the ruins of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and learn the history of this fascinating city. Then transfer to overnight in Sukhothai.

Day 5 - Sukhothai to Chiang Mai and Mae Kumpong hill village ( B/-/D )

In the morning explore by bicycle Sukhothai’s magnificent historical park, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Chiang Mai via Lampang, passing the rural countryside to Mae Kumpong village. The village is set on the Huay Kaew hillside with a stream passing by and in a cool climate at approximately 1,300 meters above sea level. Arrive at the village with a warm welcome from the villagers. Meet the family you will be staying with. Then enjoy a village walk along the local roads to explore the villagers’ handicraft production, school, etc. Then join the family to prepare a traditional northern Thai dinner using the fresh vegetables and herbs grown around the houses. After dinner in a friendly atmosphere with the host, the group will receive a Bai-Sri welcoming ceremony with traditional Northern Thai Style dancing and music by the villagers. There is time to gather for a chat and have some cultural exchanges by learning how to play the Northern classical music, dancing, etc. Overnight in the Mae Kumpong hill village.

Day 6 - Chiang Mai and Lanna friends ( B/-/- )

Join the host for making merit at the temple and having a Thai-style breakfast. Then trek uphill to tea & coffee plantations, and Kumpong waterfall for a swim. After lunch say farewell to your kind host then depart to Chiang Mai. Arrive at the home of artist Mae Pun Din to settle into your lovely wooden two-storey guesthouse. It will be quite an experience for you to learn about Lanna culture, join the workshop to develop new skills in moulding clay etc. You can also spend an evening at the famous night bazaar to practice your bargaining skills. Overnight at Mae Pun Din home stay  

Day 7 - Chiang Mai ( B/-/D )

Start your day by making merit with the family and then visit the magnificent Doi Suthep Temple for a birds-eye-view of the city. Visit the Ban Saman Jai home for autistic children and see their artistic masterpieces. You will also join your Lanna Thai family to cook some healthy Thai dishes for dinner.

Day 8 - Chiang Mai to Phuket to Ko Yao ( B/-/- )

After a healthy breakfast depart for your own flight to Phuket. Upon arrival transfer for the boat ride to Ko Yao, a small island with beautiful secluded beaches. You will have a unique experience learning about the local way of life from your warm welcoming host and the village fisherman. Overnight in Ko Yao, either home stay or at a bungalow resort in the village.

Day 9 - Ko Yao ( B/-/- )

Your family will take you to explore the nearby islands with lots of fun snorkelling, sun bathing, etc.

Day 10 - Ko Yao to Phuket or Krabi ( B/-/- )

Transfer back to Phuket or Krabi. End of services.

§ Accommodation: shared twin-bedded room with air conditioning and private facilities. While staying with the local Thai family (homestay) is in the guest room of the house (A mat with mosquito net, blanket and pillow are provided).

§ Meals: as specified in the program

§ Transport:  Air-conditioned/non-air-conditioned in remote areas. Public transport will be used where specified

§ Misc: Local English-speaking guides and all activities as specified in the itinerary, including admission fees, with instruction where necessary
