Day1 (Thu) – Bangkok to Chiang Mai ( -/-/- )
Afternoon pick up from your hotel in central Bangkok and transfer to the station for the overnight train to Chiang Mai with 2nd -class air-conditioned sleeping berth.
Day2 (Fri) – Chiang Mai ( -/-/- )
Arrive Chiang Mai and check in to your hotel. Morning free to explore the city and in the afternoon take a tour of its world-renowned temples. The night is yours to explore Chiang Mai’s famous night bazaar.
Day3 (Sat) – Chiang Mai to Trekking ( B/L/D )
Depart Chiang Mai to head north to Mae Malai local market. Lunch at Pang Lan Waterfalls before continuing on to Huay Nam Dang National Park. Trek through the forest about two hours to the Karen village of Baan Mae Jok. Take a walk around the village before dinner to witness the way of life of the people and their close links to nature.
Day4 (Sun) – Trekking and Elephant riding ( B/L/D )
Trek for about three hours to an elephant camp to start a 90-minute elephant ride to a rafting camp near the Karen village of Bann Pa Khaolam.
Day5 (Mon) – Bamboo Rafting and back to Chiang Mai ( B/L/- )
Take an exciting bamboo raft trip 25 kilometres down river, first to Ban Pong Ngan a small Lahu village and then continuing for another 2 to 3 hours to arrive at a Shan village for lunch. Return to Chiang Mai after lunch.
Day6 (Tue) – Chiang Mai to Ayutthaya ( B/-/- )
Free day to explore Chiang Mai until transfer to the station for the overnight train to Ayutthaya.
Day7 (Wed) – Riverine Discovery ( B/L/D )
Arrive in Ayutthaya and transfer to hotel with day-use room. Early afternoon board the Thanatharee and embark on your Riverine Discovery, a journey through past and present Siam. Arrive at Bang Sadej and cycle to visit this famous temple and the local orphanage. Moor at Wat Sawang Arom near Pamok.
Day8 (Thu) – Riverine Discovery ( B/L/D )
Offer food to the monks on their morning alms round. Then visit the lively local market, the village school and local drum-making families. Back onboard the Thanatharee head to the unspoilt Maenam Noi. Set off by bicycle to explore the villages alongside the river to see the day-to-day life of the villagers. Rejoin the barge and cruise downstream to moor Wat Chang Noi.
Day9 (Fri) ( B/L/- ) Hop on a bicycle to explore nearby villages and local plantations. Cruise back to the main Chao Phraya River and visit the lively Pathum Thani market. Continue to Ko Kred and explore the Mon pottery-making village on the island. Disembark at Wat Chalerm Phra Kiat and then transfer back to your hotel.
